How much boost can I run on a stock engine?
I was thinking about supercharging my 1996 V6 Mustang. How much boost can I run and still have a reliable driver? It has 120K miles on it and runs really smooth right now. After boosting it for a few years, I was planning on either rebuilding or replacing the motor with all the goodies in it. I would be using ATI Procharger intercooled kit. I was thinking maybe 7 or 9 pounds. Do you think this will be ok for awhile??
I have reasons for not getting V8 so that's not an option. Thanks to those of you that gave me real answers and not knocking on my plans.
The Dodge Stealths were actually Mistubishi 3000GT's so that's why there is lots of aftermarket stuff for it. That's also why it was turbo AWD.
they have a new Mustang Shelby 400 with a supercharged v6 with 400 hp.but it uses the 4.0 sohc Explorer engine, a very nice package.
Before you supercharge yours, you might want to look at used Thunderbirds with the 3.8 supercharged, uses the Eaton, they were fast for a 2 ton car.

My current driver is a 86 Mustang SVO with the 2.3 Turbo with a larger intercooler, adjustible boost and aluminum radiator. It also has lowering springs and aluminum drive shaft.
