2004 Subaru WRX for a 23-yr-old girl? 14K $16000?
Hi guys:)
I finally ditched the '93 Saturn I've been suffering with for the last 6 years. I've needed a new car for as long as I can remember. I originally was looking for something along the lines of a Honda/Toyota/Subaru because they are for the most part easy on gas, reliable, and have good resale value (AWD on the Subarus being an added bonus for Chicago winters). I was being smart and economical about my buying decision. My price range was under $10000, not because I don't have more to put down, but because I wasn't really planning to spend more than that on a car. I get nervous about making big purchases.
Now I found this '04 Turbo Charged Automatic WRX with only 14k. Oh yeah. Test drove it at Carmax and fell in love. Way more $$$ then what I wanted to spend, but everything about his car felt so nice.
$16,000 though...? Ah, Any suggestions?
The Impreza WRX is a great choice. They're fun to drive, they get good fuel economy, they're great in the snow, they have excellent resale value, and they're reliable. I have to wonder why that particular one has so few miles on it given the year. The price is a bit high, but fair given the mileage.
If I were you, I would get an `05-`06 that has a few more miles on it instead. I just did a quick search on Autotrader.com and found an `05 with 18k miles in Chicago for $16,999 which could probably be talked down to $15,999 or better. If you find one that has a few more miles on it than that, the price will be even lower.
As a side note, I would avoid the base Impreza because they're a bit anemic in the performance department, and I would aim, just as you're doing, for the the WRX, which is the turbocharged version. Also, take a look at the Subaru Legacy if you want something a little bigger.
Do some research, make some calls, shop around, take some test drives, make some concessions as far as mileage goes, don't settle, don't overspend, take your time, and you won't be disappointed.
