Hey everyone. Ive been having a problem with my 63' Chevy 327. This problem started last summer and Ive been trying to figure it out ever since. I was driving it one day to go get gas cause I was fairly low when randomly it bogs roughly and then shuts off. I replaced the fuel line from the pump to the carb (it was a little pinched). It ran a lot better but when I took it on its first trip after the new fuel line it did the same thing, bogged down and shut off with blue smoke coming from the carburator (I think). Also I noticed awhile ago that my oil pressure when idoling is around 10-25 psi and while driving its anywheres from 25-60 psi depending on how hard I whomp on it. Any insight would be greatly appreciated!
Sounds like you need to do some carb tuning. But not before you see to it that your ignition system and timing are where they should be first as that greatly effects the engines vacuume signal to the carb and therefore how tuneable the carb will be.
You could also have some trash in the carb. On a warm engine and in park, bring the RPM up to around 3 or 4,000. Hold it there and open the primaries(front barrels) as much as you can without opening the secondaries(rear barrels). At the same time you do this, you need to slam the choke flap completely shut and hole it and the throttle there for about 1-2 seconds. This will pull huge vaccume load through all of the tiny fuel metering passages in the carb and dislodge any dirt that may be lingering inside them.
After this, you need to set the idle mixture screws to give you the highest vacuume reading at idle. Preferably set them in gear if you have an auto trans.
Fuel pressure is also a potential problem and so is a sticking float. Your fuel pressure is more than sufficient with 5 psi.
