How do I know if my Brake Master Cylinder is going out in a 2000 Olds Alero?
The brakes are a little spongy, I took it to Pepboys and one of their techs said that it wasn't the cylinder, another tech said it was. I just got new brakes put on and a brake fluid flush was done. At first they said it was air in the brake lines, now it is the cylinder. Is there anything I can do or look at to tell for myself?
If the master cylinder is leaking internally you will be able to tell by applying pressure to the pedal & holding it for several minutes. If it is bad your pedal will continue going down slowly. If it is just spongy then it is air in the lines. A lot have places have free brake inspections. Bring it to several of them & then use the one you trust thre most.
