Breather Sprint Car

Breather Sprint Car
help! no pcv on my 1985 pontiac trans am! (recently acquired).. is this normal?

i recently bought a trans am, it has a rebuilt engine, however it still smokes excessively..

it has sprint car type valve covers.. two breathers on one, and no holes at all in the other.. i havent seen this setup on a street car.. im thinkin about takin them off and goin back to a pcv system.. do you think it would help?? it also leaks oil quite well through all the new gaskets.. too much crank case pressure caused by this system?

thanks!
note* please stop telling me i got ripped off, and i should have had a mech check it.. i got a nice car out of a trade, and i am a mechanic, im just curious..
i prefer help over attempted insults anyway.. thanks :)

Yes, you do need a PCV valve in one cover and a breather in the oil.

I have seen what your dealing with many times on street engines, just not as bad as yours though.

With out the PCV valve crankcase pressure will build up, causing oil leaks, oil running out of breathers, blowing dip stick out, smoking out the exhaust.

Cars running the system like you have norm runs a vac pump, and oil tank (catch can), or pan e vac system

Street cars needs a PCV valve in 1 cover and hose ran to big vac port on carb.. Along with 1 breather in the other valve cover.

Now blow by will also cause the same probs.. So put a PCV and breather on and if that don't fix it, you'll know it's blow by and will need a hone (maybe bore) new rings (maybe new pistons)
