Cap Button Cord

Cap Button Cord
Computer Problem?

I have a Gateway that is about 2yrs old. Every so often the screen goes black and it doesn't respond. When i hit the num lock key the light doesn't go on/off. Im forced to manually turn it off by holding in the button. When I push the button again to turn it on, the blue light in the front turns on, but the fan doesn't click on. I did figure out that when i unplug the power cord from the back and replug back in, the fan turns on but the light doesn't turn on. After i let it set for about 4 hrs it works again and the nun lock, cap lock, and the scroll lock keys blink, then it boots up fine. Im on a tight budget so if there is some way cheap to fix it that would be great. Thx if any additional info is needed then ill try my best to answer.

Because it works after leaving it for 4 hours

Perhaps your computer is overheating:

You may need to clean all the vents especially the fan vents with an air duster (can of compressed air).

It is possible that your fan(s) has failed or is running slow – they might need replacing.

For a laptop make sure you operate it on a solid surface so that air can freely circulate around it.

For a desktop, switch off, unplug and clean inside as well. Do this outside of the building because you will be surprised how much dust & dirt has accumulated.
