Chevy 350 with Quadrajet Carb?
Ok. I have a 85 Chevy 350 with the Quadrajet 4bbl. I am going to swap it out for the edelbrock 600cfm, with new adapter plate. I was wondering what to do about the choke. The current one is heat triggered. Do I buy an electric choke or manual? I don't have a choke switch or anything, I just kick it down with the accelerator.
Thanks For The Help!
What done wrenching said. Why wire up a new lead when you can use the one that's already there?
PS. The Edlejunk carbs are just that junk. Get the Quadrajet rebuilt. Kit is less than $50 with a new float. Might cost you $50 to $100 to get someone to do it but they get better mileage, and are much more reliable.
I say they are junk because I bought one years back for my 80 Camaro with a mild 355 in it. It ran like crap no matter who or how it was adjusted. I bought a C10 with SB 400 in it a few years back, had one on it, same thing. Last year I bought an 86 K 30 with a 454. It to runs like a$$. I have had several guys I know that are great mechanics try and adjust it by ear, and with a vacuum gage and timing light. Still runs way rich. I put an in line fuel regulator in it as I had heard they only like 4 to 5 lbs. of fuel pressure. Highest setting on the regulator was 8 lbs., even on that it fell on its face / ran out of fuel when asked for anything more than half throttle.
The Camaro ended up getting a Holley 500 2 barrel. The C10 with the 400 got a rebuilt quadrajet. Both times it was a 100% iimprovement. I just picked up my rebuilt quadrajet tonight that will be replacing the Edlejunk on my K30.
Think I might smash it with a big hammer when I take it off!!! Maybe target practice!!! lol.
