The timing belt went on my 2005 chevrolet aveo, my mechanic states the vehicle is totaled.?
The timing belt that I replace about 9 months ago went. The mechanic states the engine has no compression. The vehicle (2005 Chevrolet Aveo LT.) just hit 80,000 miles. I just put 4 new tires, and alignment last week. I was driving 2 work and I attempted to accelerate and the car had trouble going from one gear to the next (auto trans) at approx. 65 mph then just shut down. Would not start. Mechanic stated the timing belt blew causing massive damage, and that the engine has no compression. He stated vehicle is totaled. what is your opinion, is the covered under 100,000 power train? I dont know if the aveo is under a 100,000 power-train...
First of all, only the 1.6 liter ETech II dual overhead cam Aveo is an interference fit engine.
And second is that it only bends the valves, and does not harm the whole engine.
You only have to rework the heads.
It will cost $1500, but that is not as much as a whole engine.
But normally I would expect warranty to cover it.
Border line though, since the belt is a service part.
But if they did the belt, they will be stuck with the warranty for sure then.
