I have gone through 2 Dodge Transmissions on my 90's era ram. I am looking to buy a 1999 2500 4x4 with a V10 and a 5 Speed? Will I have to worry about that Transmission?....... And I know that Dodge transmissions are not that great. But I am a Mopar guy. FORD and CHEVY are not a option.
no they don't have hardly no problems at all out of the 5 speed transmissions,some of those will out last the vehicle if you change the oil in them on a regular bases,i got one customer that has well over 400 thousand on the original transmission and has only went through one clutch so far,i don't blame you though for wanting away from the automatics,some of those did give problems,you can buy a complete set up for that truck for about 700 bucks,and that's everything needed to swap it over with,half the time you can power shift those things and never hear a gear grind or even growl in them,and they are a tough transmission,good luck.
