Transmission fluid leakage on long distance drive?
When I go on a long distance most of my transmission fluid leaks out. I can see it dripping while parked. I found oily thing covering my back lights as well. But while I am doing short distance drives, the fluid remains on correct level. What could be the problem? Can anyone help.
How much would it cost me to fix it?
you need to find the source of the leak,, heres what i would do,, wash the engine transmission at a spraywash,, get the hose in where the axles go into the transmission,, then drive the car for about 15 minutes locally, kinda be alittle rough, speed up to 45 or so then slow down, speed up fast slow down, etc,,, to aggrivate the leak,, pull over,1. check the axles where they go into the trans,, is it leaking there,,if yes those are axle seals,, remove the bad axle, swap the seal...,2. look on the bottom of the trans pan, is it leaking there but dry above it?,, if so pan gasket leaking.. buy a filter kit and replace filter and gasket and fluid,.3. check the tube where u add the fluid and the lil breather cap on the top on the trans usually by where the shifter cable is (providing it front wheel drive),, shoot, is it front or rear wheel i need to know...if its leaking at either of them places u have pressure issues and i would def be checking the breather for restrictions....also the trans fluid could be gettin to hot and comin out the breather because it isnt going thru the trans coolor or radiator to cool down... last check the area where the engine connect to the trans on the bottom,, this will be alittle harder to check, is the fluid seemed to be puddling up there,, if so this is prob a front seal leak at the torque converter,, there will be alittle insoection cover on the trans at the flywheel, remove and use flashlight to really get a better look,,, hope this helps,,,Art
