nissan 300zx tdc and cam gears?
i bought a 1984 300zx. it ran seen oil leaking it was from the cam seals, replaced them ... i took off the timing belt and i think moved the cam gears and the crank. just want to put it back RIGHT , i guess my questions are on the alignment marks how precise do the have to be? cause there is some play ,,,,,,,from the cam ? and when they are aliened (the camshaft and the crankshaft marks) is it in tdc and in the compression stroke? and also how would you recommend removing the crankshaft timing belt pulley? because the key needs to be replaced?????????? if u could help i would be grate-full
That crank sprocket costs around 18 dollars. Soaking in penetrant oil may help. Last week I did a 1985 anniversary edition with 62,000 original miles replaced 4 radiator hoses water pump thermostat tension idler and both cam and crank seals. That car I had to drill two 7/64" holes into the crank sprocket at 180 degrees apart and tap 6x1.50mm threads so I could use a steering wheel puller and 3" long bolts and pull the crank sprocket off. There is also the drill a 3/8' hole just near the key way and use a cold chisel to break the crank pulley. Pry behind the pulley and you might also need to replace that crank sprocket belt washer. If it does not slide right off that is what I do. Crank pulley bolt torque must be 100 ftlb
