Dirt Modified Narrow

Dirt Modified Narrow
(To NASCAR fans) Why do you like NASCAR as opposed to other motorsports?

I'm just curious. I used to be a pretty big nascar fan myself (I'm pretty knowledgable of the sport also), but then I grew tired of it. Also, I'm not insulting nascar or its fans.

Why do you prefer to watch cars go in circles as opposed to road tracks. The 2 road tracks nascar does have on schedule usually have lower ratings than the ovals. Why would you prefer to watch stock cars (although they are so far from real cars anymore its ridiculous) race around Daytona than watch Ferraris, Corvettes and Porsches go around Sebring or Laguna Seca.

Why do you prefer NASCAR to WRC and Rallycross? WRC was so unpopular in the US that SPEED had to drop its coverage :( . Why don't you like watching modified Subarus speed around narrow dirt roads inches away from hitting a tree or rolling off a cliff. Why don't Citroen's with 800 bhp that can accelerate 0-60 on par with F1 cars interest you?

Why NASCAR over other forms of motorsports? I'm curious of your opinions.

In terms of NASCAR ovals vs NASCAR road courses, it's all about speed. The 2 roadcourses that they race on are fairly slow compared to the oval tracks.

As for F1 vs NASCAR. With F1 the focus tends to be more on the cars and the technology. With NASCAR there is equal distribution between the driver and the car. Since the cars are so similar minus the powerplants and braking setups the skill of the driver comes into play more. While with F1, these are supercars that are designed to handle, accelerate, and stop really really well. I mean, with NASCAR you tend to know about more than 10 drivers just by watching a single race. With F1 you only get true coverage of a few drivers. I remember back when I used to watch F1 it was always about Michael Schumacher, it was like watching the Michael Schumacher channel.lol

They are the best representation of "stock cars" for a motorsport while remaining safe. Because other than the powerplants they aren't very good at handling corners or anything. Juan Pablo Montoya compared driving a NASCAR car to driving a full-sized pickup truck. And I know from experience, driving my Chevy Suburban at 90mph on the freeway isn't all that easy, so how much more at 200mph?lol They aren't supercars that turn on a dime and stop on a dime, the drivers constantly have to adapt their driving style to the way the car is. And the car is always changing.

I guess you could put it this way, anyone could drive a technologically advanced super car really fast around a track. But not everyone can drive a bloated square box really fast around a track, at least not without hitting the wall. Just look at Juan Pablo Montoya, he came over from F1 and it's taken him 3 years to finally "get" NASCAR.

Also, seeing as how it is an American sport, we like to see our cars driving around, and not those from other countries (why do you think we still haven't truly accepted Toyota?). It's the same around the world, you don't see Dodges, Fords, or Chevrolets racing in F1, even though they could field a car if they wanted to. I like watching a Chevrolet, Dodge, and Ford going 3-wide around turn 3 at 186.756mph running 3 inches away from each other.

It just wouldn't feel right if after Jeff Gordon won a race he said "The Dupont Subaru did a great job tonight." It just wouldn't be right.lol
