What to do when receiving a ticket while driving uninsured but police didn't specify if I was uninsured or not?
I live in Ohio and received a ticket for running a red light. The police pulled me over and asked for a license and proof of insurance. I look for insurance in the glove compartment and i can't find any with my name on it. I wasn't sure whether or not I was still on the insurance (i go to school out-of-state most of the year) so I told him I couldn't find it. He said to produce it when I went to court or when I sent in money for the ticket. I checked the OH BMV website and it said if the officer indicates on the ticket that insurance was not shown, your license will be suspended, etc. BUT on the ticket he gave me the box for "proof of financial responsibility shown" is left blank. (neither yes or no is checked). So, what happens? Can i send in money for the ticket without proof of insurance? Any ideas?
if you don't have insurance and are not on your parents' policy, go get it NOW. Take the POI to court. yes the insurance will cost more if you had a lapse in coverage. You can alsoo be required, by the stae, to submit a financial responsibility form (FR19, SR22, of whatever it is in YOUR state) which menas you will have to carry a specific level of coverage, so ask the agent and get it first, so you won't have to go back and do the insurance all over agein, but can just get the case number and have the agent add the SR22. (it's about $15-$25 per term)
