New 80 Gal Fish Tank Check List?
Stuff i'll need for my new tank if you see anything that I missed please let me know. My budget it around 1,500-1,800 Dollars. I will be starting a 80 gallon tank in a few months and want to make sure I have the most important things listed below that I need to get.
1. 80 Gallon Stand
1. 80 Gallon Fish Tank
1. Titanium Heater 300W
1. Top Fin - Dual outlet XP-125
1. Top Fin - Airline Tubing
2. Elite Aqua Fizzz Long Airstones 4"
1. Top Fin - Airline Holders
2. Fluval 405 Canister filters
1. Ultra Gravel Vac - Self Start
1. Api Master Test Kit
1. Bottle of API Water Conditioner
10. 20 lbs bags of gravel
this will be a freshwater tank.
1. the tank comes with a hood & light
2. I know about cycling and will be doing a fishless cycle.
3. For decorations I want all natrual looking stuff.

That should be a great set-up. Were it mine,I'd change,actually add, one more thing,another type of filter, a simple large sponge or something like a large Aqua-clear. This to provide a little redundancy, and peace of mind. Also I'd add sponge pre-filters to the Fluvals. This in effct changes them into Biological filters only, just set them up with sponges and bio-media of some sort. This means you won't have to do monthly tear-downs to clean the insides,just the sponge prefilters, this is a great labor saving trick. Frequent cleaning of a canister filter can get real tedious,real quick. Having only a couple of large prefilter sponges to clean makes maintenance much easier,and faster. The bottom line is if the maintenance is easier,it gets done more frequently,and healthier fish are the result.
One other item, you could probably get by with less gravel,150# should do.
