Answer me these questions three (MAF sensor questions)?
I got my car with an aftermarket intake on it and so far as I can tell there is no MAF sensor on the car. Was wondering if my car was equipped with a MAF sensor from the factory of does it have a different sensor. I would also like to know what damages can occur to the vehicle if it is operated without the MAF. The car seems to run just fine as is, so should I keep it this way or find a sensor to put in?
Thanks.
The vehicle is a 98 Mits Eclipse RS 2.0 Non-turbo (420A).
How can I tell if my car is set up with a MAP sensor or other sensor as opposed to a MAF sensor?
according to the online repair manual from autozone, my car is set up with a MAP sensor. does anybody know of the location where this sensor would be?
Hey mate if your car needed a mass air flow sensor it would certainly not run fine without one as the electronic control unit needs the information of how much air is entering the engine to be able to adjust fuel injector duration accordingly, if the sensor was even unplugged it would not run well at all and struggle to drive aswell as bringing up the check engine light on the dash. even a faullty MAF will make the car gutless under acceleration...The answer...your car must have a MAP sensor (Manifold Air Pressure) this does the same job but in a different way. However I admitt I do not know off hand that this is what your car has factory, for all I know your car still has a MAF but you just can't see it eitha way If the car runs and drives fine and there is no warning light on the Dash there is nothing to worry about
