Why are race (foot, 5k, etc) timing clocks so incredibly expensive? The brains are no more than a watch??
I've been looking for a decent priced race timing clocks for athletic events but they're all $500-$1500. WHAT!?!? All they have to do is count up or down like a 99cent watch and they've got an LED array to show the time in large scale. Parts couldn't cost $20 if was encased in aluminum. Anyone with the electronic know how want to go into business? j/j, but I'm curious why their so ridiculously expensive. If you really know why, please answer, otherwise, don't bother please.

Check the accuracy of these clocks. Most probably they can go as low as 1/1000-th of a sec. They may also have special sync. circuits (start counting as soon as the gun is fired, etc.)
