would H23A rods work in a turbocharged B20A prelude engine?
I am building a turbocharged B20A engine for a 1990 prelude. I do not intend to change the powerband any I am intending to just increase the torque. I already bought new pistons and rings. The block will not need anything the factory block and crankshaft will hold up under 380hp. I am intending to leave the maximum operating speed at 7200 rpm. But am i better off buying forged rods made for this engine or would H23A rods be fine? The forged B20A rods are twice as expensive but I am only intending to make about 230 lb-ft@4,500 rpm and about 220hp@5,500 rpm. I will not be racing it so more torque at low speed will be more useable in this application. Also what turbocharger would be best? I want it to be as simple as possible I was intending to use a rising rate regulator and slightly larger injectors and keep the automatic transmission since it is geared higher and runs at a lower speed going down the highway.
If you're wanting more torque ... then a turbo "might" not be the route to take. A general rule of thumb is 1 psi = 10hp so you would have to run around 6 - 10 psi to get where you want to be. The turbo lag won't be horrible, but it'll be there. So even though you won't be sitting still from all the turbo lag, don't expect your eyeballs to be sucked through your head right as you hit the gas.
As far as your rods go, I'd use the forged ones. It's better to do it right the first time and never have to worry about it again .. plus you may decide to up your boost one day. You only have to buy four of them, so even if they're expensive it's not too horrible.
As far as which turbo kit ... good luck. I don't think there's much aftermarket support for that motor.
If it were me ... I'd put an H22 in it and let it go. There's your low end torque motor. Then it'll be a N/A motor and you won't have to worry about the other stuff. If you go this route, hang on to the B20 because you never know when you might need it.
