Hello, I have a 98 GC with 57,000 miles. It was a daily driver for a few years then it only got driven maybe 600 miles a year. I just turned 16 and this truck will be my daily driver soon. Anyway, the front calipers/brakes wont release entirely. They release to the point of it being drivable, but when the front end is on jack stands, it takes some muscle just to turn the front wheels. The pads are in decent shape. I'm thinking this could be old frozen calipers? The calipers do have slight corrosion/rust on them. But, I don't want to buy new calipers just to later figure out they are not the problem. Is there anyway of 100% concluding that this is in fact a frozen/malfunctioning caliper?? Thanks guys!
Ok guys, I did a little more inspection and discovered that the rear brakes (disk brakes) are also dragging slightly. Not NEARLY as much as the front but noticeably enough when i jack the rear end up and put the transmission in neutral and then turn the wheel.
pull the wheels and take the pads out, you should be able to push the caliper in easily, if not replace them. very easy and cheap too.
