Question about supercharging a 2004 GTO?
Want to supercharge a 2004 Pontiac GTO with a vortech supercharger. Runs 8.5 psi, brings the stock hp of 350 to 490.
I am going to get the engine rebuilt, because the car has 50,000 mile on it. I am going to get new forged rods, pistons, racing heads, larger cam, etc. Then I would get performance exhaust, intake, larger throttle body, larger gear set (3.75, or higher) etc.
My question is can I use this vortech system with 490hp with my stock transmission and stock rear end?
No, a 4L65 is too weak of a transmission. It will just handle it if you roll on the gas slow, but if you're doing any hard launches, the power will rip it apart.
I'm curious as to why you're going the route of a supercharger, why not turbo? STS rear mount turbo systems on GTO's are making nearly the power you want, with 4 PSI, that's about half of what your supercharger will run for that power. You'll also get better gas mileage.
I suggest you look into a turbocharger before a supercharger, you'll put a whole lot less wear and tear on your engine.
