I had a hole in my radiator hose and had lots of the obvious heating problems so I went out and replaced it. I also replaced my air filter with a K&N High Flow air filter and can see the difference in performance. I filled the radiator with Dexcool coolant mixed with the proper amount of water and took care of that but the car is still heating up and after about 15 minutes of driving, the temperature light is ready to come on. Any advice on what might be going on.
When the car is cooled down, take off the radiator cap and let the car warm up. Do you see the coolant moving pretty fast inside the radiator? Can you see the coolant at all? Does the coolant come gushing out? If you can see the coolant moving through the radiator lines, your thermostat is opening. If the coolant comes gushing out, the thermostat is not opening. You can take the thermostat out and run the car without one to see if your problem clears up. If so replace the thermostat. With the radiator cap off, make sure to fill the radiator and let it run for a while to let any trapped air out.
