My throttle got stuck wide open for about 40 seconds on my car, what needs to be checked? ?
My throttle cable got stuck some how on my 95 eclipse gsx (turbo) . I went to go start my car in the morning and the revs began to climb, I took the key out of the ignition but the car didn't shutoff, due to the fact that i had a turbo timer that keeps my car running even after i take the key out. It was set for 30 sec, and i didn't know how to shut off my turbo timer. ( i just bought the car and im very inexperienced) anyways i left the car alone for a couple days and finally got the balls to start it after we fixed the throttle issue, everything seemed fine and it wasn't running different except i noticed that i have very low oil pressure at idle. I don't think anything broke on my car but i could be wrong... do i need to take my car to a mechanic or is there something specific that needs to be checked? I could give more information if needed.
thanks -devon
Check the oil - pull the dipstick and look at the color and take a whiff. If the oil seems to be darkened and smells a little gassy, change your oil, and put a little modifier like Restore in (it couldn't hurt!). Also, change your oil filter - you may have a problem with the filter due to the high oil viscosity
Its a bit long to be at high revs at such a low engine temperature - you may have starved your bearings of lubricant, which would result in a low oil pressure. Or your oil bypass (which prevents oil starvation if your filter clogs) may be stuck open for the same reason your oil filter may have bitten the dust. If an oil/filter change doesn't solve your problem, you may want a mechanic to check your oil pump for damage or a stuck bypass. Most everything else shouldn't have been harmed, or if it were harmed, you would clearly know about it.
