Twice in the last month, when I stop the car and try to lock the car with the key remote, nothing happens. I get back into the car, I find that the headlights don't work and the instument panel is dark. I work with the ignition switch, turning it to accessory, on, and start and eventually everything starts working again, but then the engine light stays on. The first time, the engine light stayed on until the second start-up the next day. Today was the second time this happened and the engine light is still on. I thought it might have something to do with the weather as it was much colder than usual the first time - around 30 degrees in the morning and had rained during the night, but today it was probably around 50 degrees in the afternoon and was raining when it happened. I thought it could be a fuse, but I believe that more than one fuse would control all of the things that quit/started working at the same time. Any idea what could cause this problem?
Take it to a dealer. You don't want your car to start on fire. Your car is fairly new and should not be doing this. They may just tell you what is going on for free and it may be covered under a technical service bulletin, that is a warning sent to dealers to watch out for a problem that is widespread and could be repaired for free.
