I have a1997 escort wagon LX with 2.0. I put turbo muffler with bigger exhaust pipes, cold air induction, change air flow sensor, stage 3 chip, electric 1 psi boost when needed hooked to cold air and air vortec installed in intake pipe. Factory HP is 115 and on diag got to 155hp and instead of 90 lb's of torque have 160. considering it is one of lightest cars it is fast. o-60 in 6.9 and 1/4 in 17.00. Not bad for 400.00. What else can be done considering the car to improve it more to pull 17' boat with 175 Jonson motor. It is rated at 1300 lb's for towing.
Also put all sythetic fluids in car(OIL,tranny, rear end, and power steering which gives 15 hp dsue to reduced friction. also if you or a better half drive w/o oil you have about 300-400 miles until problems.
all that money really could of been better spent to get a pickup to tow the boat with no problem now you still have the same car and are still not sure if its going to do a really good job sounds like you really wanted a hotrod to drag with but you suspension is still weak to do the job proplery this is my thoughts toyota has a really great truck with the suspension etc to do the job that you want to do or ford,chevy etc
