i have a 350 bored 40 over with stroker kit alum heads,holley 650 double pump, msd 6al and pro billet distributor. i have a holley fuel pump and a regulator on it .i have a psi gauge hook on my fuel line going to my carb. it is only reading 3 -1/2 psi i try adjusting it and wont go any higher could the fuel pump be bad ? i was told i need about 6-7 psi is this true ? also it will idle but when i give it gas it will pop / crackle throw the mufflers could this be lack of gas or what causeing the poping ? some one please help.also i have plugs gap at 45 its that too big of a gap or too less?
Well, as far as the pressure goes I have always heard between 4-7. Have you tried running the pump with out the regulator? The pop/crackle could be all kinds of things, one could be a low pressure fuel, another a lean condition, another you may need a carb spacer, Maybe timing isn't quite where the engine wants it, gas is to low octane. The plugs are probably about right as long as they are getting good voltage from a good coil ( no mention of the coil you are using.
