So I went outside this afternoon and saw that my car's gas cap was unscrewed and left open. I also saw that there was some type of liquid that seemed to be dried on the tire and there was a huge stain on the cement right by my tire. It looked as if someone tried to siphon out my gas or something, and I had just filled up the tank, so I started it up to see how full the tank was. It was running for like 10 seconds, just long enough to see the the fuel reading. I am guessing that someone put some type of liquid in my gas tank. I had it towed away to get it looked at, but I was wondering what is going to happen from here on out. How much do you think it will run to clean out the gas tank, or possibly more? I am a girl, so I am not too familiar with what is going to happen. Any help? Why would they leave the gas cap unscrewed to make it so obvious?
well it will cost a few hundred dollars to drain the tank and clean it out ..also i would have the filter changed as well . it can trash the engine if it is something like sugar or syrup. gets to the engine. I would fill the take one cleaned with hi octane gas add a bottle of injector cleaner.
the reason they left the cap off was they was about to get caught . or there is nothing been added to the tank they just want it to appear it has. just the fear, trouble, and cost to check it out may have been what they wanted to do all along.
I would also install a locking gas cap to prevent this in the future . They cost about $25
