I bought a small 4x8 trailer off craigslist for $50. It was a project trailer for me, beacuse I was going to modify it to haul my 2 dirtbikes. The axle is welded to the frame, and it sits way too low. I have a set of hubs and wheels for it, and I will be picking up tubing for the axle tomorrow at a local metal shop. All I need is leaf springs. I will be making the spring hangers and mounts for the shackles.
I have a set of leaf springs from a 1998 Chevy S10 blazer. Can I use these for the trailer?? Or do I really have to spend $60 for little trailer leaf springs??
The problem with using a leaf spring this long without a shock absorber is that the trailer will bounce a lot while you are towing it. I tried it once and it seemed like the more weight you put on it the more it wanted to bounce. I ended up putting a set of coil springs on top of the leaf springs right in the center.
