I am writing a presentztion for college and need information on how a motorcycle exhaust pipe is made from what material to mandrel bending
There are dozens of ways that pipes are made.
From Standard OEM systems made from stamped mild steel machine welded at the seams, to race systems hand-made from titanium tubing.
Generally, aftermarket headpipes are made from; mild steel (which can be chromed, nickeled, ceramic coated, or left raw), stainless steel, or titanium. Mandrel bending is required. Some systems also have cone inserts to vary the ID of the pipe at different critical points.
Some pipes are inserted - smaller inner tubing with a 'pretty' chromed outer tubing - this occurs on OEM systems for many models.
This information is for Four Stroke engines, two strokes require cone systems with expansion chambers.
Of course, this is just information specific to the headpipe alone - the muffler would be included in a complete exhaust system, and it would take me a week to give you specifics on the different configurations of motorcycle mufflers!
