Why do some cars have higher ground clearance?
I noticed that some off-road vehicles have slightly higher ground clearance compared to the stock vehicle. What is this modification called? Here's an example...

Off Road vehicles sit higher or have better ground clearance, so they can get over stuff easier that may be in there paths. Not only that, but off road vehicle have skid plates to better project they from what they may come a cross. The vehicle may also sit higher due to the vehicle being equipped with a tire designed for off road use. Not all tires are the same, there are all season and Mud tires, just to name a few.
