I Want to add a Nitrous System to my '84 Corvette. My dad had told me I should get another engine from a salvage yard, rebuild that (So I can still drive my car) because the engine would likely blow if I used nitrous considering it is a 26 year old engine. I am going to follow his advice. Which nitrous systems would work for my L83 350-cid (5.7-liter) V-8 with cross-fire fuel injection? And is it illegal? I would only be using it on the drag strip, but it would be hooked up. I would turn the bottle valves off. It would be too much of a pain to unhook everything.
Nitrous oxide is illegal in all 50 states to have connected to your car. Why? It's not emissions legal, so it won't pass federal emissions with the nitrous on. Now, it's NOT illegal to have a nitrous system installed. You will get a ticket if you have the bottle connected at all. What is best, is when you go to the track, carry the bottles in your back seat. And no, it doesn't take much time to disconnect the bottle. This has been heavily discussed with various law enforcement officers and myself over time at local car club gatherings and car shows.
