Contaminated well water?
We have a 48 foot deep tube well, which has recently been giving us a lot of trouble. The water smells bad, and when the well was cleaned out, we found a lot of worms, some dead, some alive. They were about half a foot long, and the live ones were red in colour; the dead were white.
That was a month ago, and the well was cleaned out. Now the water smells again. We checked the pipe for cracks through which the worms could have entered the water supply. The pipe was fine up to 3 feet down (which, according to an expert, is how far earthworms go), so we are wondering how else the water could have become contaminated.
Anyone who has any idea, please do let us know.

The well has been dug up to the rock bed, and has been OK for the past 20 years.
A metal well casing must be at least 60 ft. deep to prevent surface water from entering the well. Your well isn't even deep enough to get below surface water. You are getting the run off from the surrounding area, septic tanks, vegetation, even dog feces on the ground is seeping down below the bottom of your well.
Have a well drilled and cased below 60 ft. to get safe water to drink.
