I have a 1986 5.0 mustang. I have to do head gaskets so since Im in that area I figure I will put rebuilt heads on. So I orderd some old school heads that should be around 60 combustion chamber. Then putting on a edelbrock performer intake and 600 CFM carb. Installing BBK shorty headers too. H pipe is gutted and for a exaust I have flow masters. What do you think this combo would put out for power? No longer the E6 heads so I have better breathing heads and more compression ratio.
I'd say 260rwhp. It depends the cam though. The carb is large enough, but without an aftermarket cam your not going much more forward then you started out with. I'd say get some real good aluminum heads, a healthy cam (something over .550 lift on each end) and get your carb jetted properly and your looking at perhaps a bit over 300rwhp (which isn't too shabby). Just keep in mind that your stock pistons may prevent you from using the cam you want..just make sure you clay it to see if there is going to be p/v clearance issues. Good luck..
