if you are asking about the bulge in the pipe, that is not a filter, bit a noise reducing section. it is a little difficult to explain but it uses sound waves to cancel sound waves. that one has a diameter that is larger the full length of the pipe compared to the other. as long as the manifold and the cat can adapt or receive that size i see no problem.
