Got a 91 3000gt SL with a blown motor. Was racing 2 weeks ago and the motor went doing 155. Got really bad knock in one of the back 3 cylinders. Other signs are black oil and low oil pressure. I think oil pump went out couple of days before and I just haven't noticed...
I can get my hands on 6g72TT motor for 1k. Got lots of questions. I am also going to post on 3si.org tonight when I get home from work.
What parts need to be upgraded on my stock setup? I am talking necesary not recommended parts. like clutch, motor mounts, transmission...etc.
My biggest brainer is will my stock tranny handle it? I found a shop few miles away that will rebuild my tranny to stage 2 for $1400.
I am not mechanic but have done the swap on this car once already to just another non turbo. With help from a mechanic.
You're going to want a vr4 tranny to handle the power of a turbo motor, or at the very least a LSD for your N/A tranny if you decide to go that route. You're going to need to weld the VCU on the tranny in order to run it as FWD so please find a blown one. Please do not weld a properly working VCU.
You will also need turbo ECU, intercoolers, bigger injectors, possibly a SAFC, air fuel ratio gauge(wideband), boost gauge and there are many other things you will need to do this properly.
