how do you lower a 62 corvair?
i dont know jack shit about this as i worked with aircooled vws. any info is great, level of diffculty, tools needed , materials needed, etc... help out a kiddo finish his 75% done 62 rat rod corvair. ideas on how to hook it up is also valued(i dont want to hear how you dont like corvairs, or nader this, or your friend flipped one, or blew an engine, or how they are unsafe because all of it is bullshit)
The front suspension is a standard A-arm coil spring type which means you can cut the springs (do 1/2 coil at a time until you get the height you want) using an abrasive cut off tool. Be aware cutting coils off springs will stiffen your ride some. Option 2 is to buy a set of coil springs wound for the lower height without increasing ride stiffness. Likely lowering coils are not readily available for a Corvair (unusual to lower one, would be cool though) so you would have to have them custom wound. Check the web for custom coil companies.
The rear also uses coil springs on swing arms. Here you can also cut the coils to lower the car or replace with custom wound springs.
Doing this is really not that big of a job if you follow repair manuals for removing and reinstalling the springs. Air driven cut off tools are inexpensive and work slick for cutting coils.
If you got extra cash and some mechanical fabrication skills, buy air springs (Arnott, Air ride technologies) and an air ride control package so you can raise and lower the 'vair. I'm putting a set in my '55 Stude coupe. really bitchin' look when lowered.
Next - look at the V-8 conversions, that would rip!
