Gas tank won't fill up. What can cause this?
I have 2003 Toyota Sienna. When my gas gauge shows about a quarter or so, I try to refill the tank.
It will shot off as if the tank was full within few seconds. I'll try again and again and the tank can take another 20-25$ worth of gas. The gas gauge never shows more then three quarters.
I tried different gas stations, to eliminate the problem with the pump. I also don't think the gas gauge is wrong, because if the tank was truly full, eventually it would start overflowing. It never does.
What can cause this?
It may also be that the tank on the Sienna isn't venting properly. As you empty the tank, air flows in to keep the tank at normal atmospheric pressure. When you add gas to the tank, that air has to be vented so that the gas can flow in. If the tank isn't venting properly, the gas can't flow in.
