aluminum heads questions?
i have a fresh sbc 355ci ft pistons, no cam or top end. i found a fresh set of dart pro 1s at the machine shop. thehave 220 intake runners and 2.055/1.625 valves 64cc angle plugs and the intake. ferra valves and isky roller springs titanuim retainers and keepers. the guy wants $750?(heads and intake) they never been repaired or any damage. are these heads to big for my 9.5 compression motor? my bottom end is all new steel gm crank i beam rods and hyper pistons. i just wanna know if these will run...i know if u run bigge rrunners they say they should be used on larger cube motor.
If you want to run a 640 lift solid roller cam and a single plane intake, and you plan on a 6000-8000RPM range so the head will make some port velocity, then you can run that head. In your 350, without any forced induction or lots of N2O and Gasoline, that's how hard you'll have to spin it to make that big old port work on a 350. Of course at that point, you'd be playing with 9:1 compression only if you had to.
Otherwise, your engine will be a total flop with that head and you'll get your doors blown off by the same engine with a stock Vortec head on it.
He's got a decent price, but that head is DEAD wrong for you.
If you goal is 6500RPM and less, a Stock Vortec Head will make the most power for you out of a conventional 23 degree shelf style head. If you are looking more at a 300-400 range on up to say around 7500 RPM, then as far as off the shelf heads are concerned, an AFR 210 CNC Race Ready is about as good as you can buy.
64CC chambers with your flat top pistons on a zero decked 350 block will net you almost right at 10.25:1 compression.
