What's the lifter clearance on a Pontiac 400 with solid lifters? ('77 Trans Am)?
I have a '77 Pontiac Trans Am with the original 400 Pontiac engine, but it has several modifications. It has been switched from hydraulic lifters to solid lifters. I believe it has a different cam, and it has an aftermarket Turbo installed. The mechanical fuel pump just went out, and my mechanic is noticing some loose lifters on one side of the engine. He can't remember what the clearance ought to be, though. Anyone know?
The valve lash depends on cam brand, lobe profile, ramp speed etc.
Common lash range though is around .020" to .028"
The solid cam I'm running is a tight lash cam that only needs .016" hot lash clearance
My buddy's old chevy 'off road' solid cam calls for a .031" hot lash
