What should I do with my Mustang V6?
I have a 2010 Mustang V6 and I'm thrilled with it, and as much as I love driving it, I'm looking to make some modifications. I'm not looking to race my car or even have it match the horsepower of a Mustang GT, I would just like a little more rumble and acceleration. It would also be nice if I could kill two birds with one stone and increase my fuel economy by a few mpg.
I've done some research and I'm thinking about adding a cold air filter, and possibly an ECU chip. I've heard that without chipping your car, the modifications you make will be evened out by the stock program and that you will eventually be back to square one. Is that true?
Also, I am able to do most modifications myself, but programming a chip isn't something I'm adept at and I don't want to mess with it. How much does it typically cost to have a professional tune your car?
I would appreciate detailed responses, and I thank you in advance for your time and input.
1. It's a cold air intake, not a cold air filter.
2. Your car already HAS a cold air intake. Look at it. It leads away from the engine, towards cooler air. That is a cold air intake.
3. You cannot gain mpg and horsepower. One or the other.
4. ECU chips lean out your engine, which makes it seem like you gain power, and MPG, but in doing so, causes damage to your cylinders. Which will cost thousands of dollars to repair.
5. There are thousands of websites for the Ford Mustang. Go join one, introduce yourself as a new Mustang owner, and ask for advice on the first upgrades to do.
