I've got a Civic '00 I have black oil in coolant reservoir tank with smell of gasoline. I've purchased a new radiador, I've washed deeply the hoses(aswell smell like gas). There is no coolant(water) in motor oil, tranny oil or power steering fluid. I want to know whats the next probable cause. I know it could be the oil cooler, Head GAsket, Cylinder head, Block. I would like to leave out the most expensive & hard for the end. Ive alread bought a new radiador since I already needed one so im just making sure what else could be incase it continues. I live in mexico so mecanics here dont know much :S ive even taking it to honda dealers & can;t find cause..
Hi Celeste, are you sure it is oil and not actually gasoline in the reservoir, perhaps it was a deteriorated rubber hose residues and gasoline that someone put into the reservoir in error. If the car is automatic the trans oil cooler is in your radiator could have been leaking which is no longe a potential now that you have replaced the radiator. Combustion byproduct circulating in the radiator will surface at the filler neck, start and run the car at high throttle and inspect this area for bubbles and odors..If those markers are present the leak could be at the cyl. head or gasket/block. You seem to have a good handle on it, so good luck...
