Supercharger Blower How

Supercharger Blower How
What kind of super chargers are blowers, on muscle cars?

I'm talking about blowers with the circular vents that open and close.... How do they open and close? and what kind of supercharger is this...root/twin screw/

Actually all super chargers are blowers. It is forced induction. A supercharger has to be driven form the engine, by a drive belt. A turbocharger acts off the exhaust gases propelling the the turbine in the turbocharger.

There are different styles of superchargers. Some stick through the hood, like a drag car, or others sit down in the engine compartment, something like where your air conditioner compressor sits. The biggest way to determine between the two, superchargers are belt driven, turbochargers are exhaust driven.

The flaps in front of a blower, open like a flap in a carburetor. It only allows enough air to pass to obtain the proper rpm. The fuel is injected into the engine, at the base of the intake manifold. It also has a proportional valve allowing only as much fuel as the air is coming into it. The valve is on the same linkage as the flaps, so they act the same when operated.

If you have a twin, root screw type blower, it is driven by a belt, into to a gear set up inside. It has two impellers in it, that come very close to each other as they spin. They have wipers in them, that connect with each other, allowing volumes of air to be pushed into the intake manifold.

Superchargers are pushing air all the time, while you have to wait for a turbocharger to react, before you notice any power gain.
