k next question is what would i have to do when adding a supercharger to my 88 302 mustang gt??
what changes would i have to do upon getting a supercharger hooked up on my 88 302 mustang gt...drivechain, new tranny, i have an AOD transmission, new back wheel axcel???or will the kit that i buy have everything listed what i will need to put into my car, like the intercooler and (i dont know)... anyone know of a good brand of supercharger i can look out for???
The thing about most supercharger companies is that they design their systems around stock applications. So basically if your mustang is stock the systems will bolt up directly and no other items will be needed in order for the supercharger to work well with your car.
Currently for the 5.0L the Vortech has been the most popular one we carry. Many people like the Vortech S-Trim for the fact that it comes with a safe 7-9 psi out the box, which is around 130 + HP gains and these systems have proven to be very reliable.
Now these systems will come with everything needed. It comes with a larger fuel pump, FMU, and even a timing control box that retairds your timing under boost. All these items are needed in order for the supercharger to run safely onto your application so you do not blow your engine from running too lean on fuel.
Now once you start modifing the engine with cams, headers, and so on. You will then need to re-tune your car. Since the Supercharger manufactures design their systems on stock cars...once you start making the engine breath more...it will cause a lean condition because the increase in air flow. Once your car run leans you will have to put it on a dyno and get it custom tuned, which usually will require larger fuel injectors, mass air, and a chip.
So the more stock the vehcile it is the better off you are. Once you start modifing the engine you will have to bascially get other stuff in order to run it safely on your car.
btw...the intercooler is really not needed unless you are running high levels of boost in the 14+ psi range. As long as you stay on the lower psi range it is not needed at all.
I'm attaching a link that explains a little bit more about the supercharger systems. Hopefully this works out for you.
