For the first site can you guys give me a materials list for the pvc tubes? I know there are 4-ways, elbows, and 3-ways, but what are the straight tubes?

That does look like a sturdy cage. I made a PVC cover to keep the birds out of my strawberries, PVC works great. As far as being bad for food plants, most home gardens and sprinkler systems are delivering water through PVC pipes.
