MPG increase idea need your advices if this will work or not and why?
I am the GM technician that likes to experiment when I have some free time so here is what I was thinking to do. I will connect a relay that will be controlled by brake pedal switch and when the brake is pressed the relay is activated and the controlled current will automatically insert resistance into the 12V wire that supplies the fuel pump with battery voltage. The resistance will be potentiometer which I will be able to fine tune to the minimum fuel pressure that my engine will work on at idle with all the loads on and brake pressed. The purpose of this modification is to decrease fuel pressure at stoplights and on deceleration. Also another relay will activate the EFI device that will automatically add 300mv to O2 sensor signal, and when the brake pedal is released everything will go back to normal. So what you people think will this work or not?
will NOT work.
Lowering the fuel pressure doen not make the car use less fuel. Unused fuel is returned to the tank via the "return line".
A potentiometer will not control the fuel pump without burning itself out. th eFuel mump draws at least a few amps, you would need a "speed control" type of board to do that.
The computer will detect the 300mv going to the O2 sensor and turn the check engin elight on. Dont mess with it.
