Supercharger vs Turbo?
05 grande cherokee hemi, i was thinking supercharger because turbo seems like something that belongs in a rice rocket, but thats another discussion. Ive been hearing alot about using turbos instead though what are some pros and cons
The supercharger gives you more "instant" power, where a turbo takes a little while to wind up but then makes more overall power. To give you an example, I drive a supercharged Grand Prix tweaked to around 300HP, there is an aftermarket kit to replace my SC with a turbo, that will give me 100 more HP with no other mods, so that gives you an idea how much more peak HP a turbo gives over a SC. However, the supercharger makes it's power so much quicker that in a much heavier car I can beat an Evo or a WRX off the line and pull way ahead until I hit around 50 mph when they eventually pass me. (yes AWD guys, my car does grip that well with the right tires on it.)
Honestly I feel like the low RPM power of a supercharger is more usable, especially if you are offroading. However, the turbo is more efficient if you are just looking for speed.
