It's a 350-V8 light duty (c10) truck. Need to know before I go pick up a Chilton's/Hayne's manual. Would be convenient to know beforehand so I don't have to purchase the book, then flip through it and return if I need it. I already have the gasket.
You should dress only the one side of the gasket, so you can pull the valve covers without tearing the gasket. My personal favorite is Gasgacinch - clean the valve covers thoroughly, tap any dents flat (especially if the bolts have been overtorqued) then brush the gasacinch on the valve cover side of the gasket and let tack - then put it on the valve cover (I use bolts to guide the gasket onto the cover and center the bolt holes - makes things a little easier). Make sure the cylinder heads have a clean, gunk-free surface before you reinstall your covers, and above all things - don't overtorque your valve cover bolts. If you don't already have them, get the cover bolt doodads that spread the pressure across the rim, rather than hoping the bolts do the trick.
