Hello, I own a 2001 mazda protege and the temperature gauge has been acting up. I have recently changed the water pump and timing belt as well as changed the oil and added new coolant. But after driving for about five or ten minutes, the temperature gauge gets very hot. And recently, it reached the max and the coolant began to boil. I have been too afraid to drive it around. Any suggestions why this happens and how I should go about fixing this problem? Thanks.
Check your thermostat. If it isn't working then your car will overheat. It doesn't sound like a fan because it is overheating too fast. Also when you fill the coolant up in the radiator it is best to do it while the vehicle is running. Leave the cap off and when the car warms up it will cycle the radiator fluid into the engine and give you a chance to fill the radiator up some more. A lot of times people do not do this and it leaves the engine empty of fluid and the radiator full making it harder for the car to cool down or even leaving air pockets that can cause overheating. Also if you pull the thermostat out and boil it in some water when the water starts to boil it should pop open if not then it needs to be replaced.
